Andrew Karolyi

Dr. Andrew Karolyi is the Charles Field Knight Dean of the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. He serves as a professor of finance and holder of the Harold Bierman Jr. Distinguished Professorship in the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. He is also a professor of economics in Cornell’s College of Arts and Sciences. Andrew has been a member of the Center for International Business Advancement (CIBA) advisory board since its founding and has served as its chair since 2020. In this role he creates and supports international strategic partnerships emphasizing the importance of worldwide connectivity.
Dean Karolyi is a scholar of investment management who specializes in international financial markets. His research and perspectives are featured regularly in print and electronic media, and he has extensive editorial and board service, recently completing his term as executive editor of the Review of Financial Studies. In that post, he spearheaded a special issue pioneering research on climate finance. Andrew’s dedication to the Center for International Business Advancement goes back to the Center’s inception, and is reinvigorated now with this concentrated collaboration.
Dr. Karolyi received his BA in economics from McGill University and worked at the Bank of Canada for several years in its research department. He earned his MBA and PhD degrees in finance at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago. Before joining Cornell, he served on the faculty of The Ohio State University’s Fisher College of Business, the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business, and at the University of Alberta.
